Dan Charles Yergensen

Dan Charles Yergensen, Ph.D. passed away in his home in Arroyo Grande, California, on March 20, 2019. It was the Spring Equinox, a full moon and a beautiful sunny day on the central coast of California, the bright sunlight warming his home overlooking the sparkling Pacific Ocean.

Dan was a father, husband, psychologist, mentor and friend. He is survived by his son Erik Baker Yergensen, daughter-in-law Chelsea Yergensen, grandson Jordan Rey Yergensen, daughter Kirsten Yergensen, and grandson Lukijah Ayo Santos. His first granddaughter will be born any day now.

Dan loved his children, and he shared that their childhood was the best part of his life. He is remembered fondly as someone who enjoyed loud music, was an excellent conversationalist and was not afraid to speak his mind, share his truth or listen to others. He will be dearly missed. We were not ready for him to go.

Jerry Cummings Lamb

July 18, 1947 – May 19, 2019

Jerry passed on May 19, 2019, at the age of 71 in Ivins, Utah. He was born July 18, 1947, to James Elijah and Beverly D. Cummings Lamb in Heber City, Utah, where he spent his early years.

After high school Jerry served in the Army in the Vietnam War. This experience had a lasting effect on him. Jerry worked throughout the West in the oilfields and heavy construction, primarily driving truck.

He married Roberta Broadhead and they had two children, Kristy and Cody, as well as two stepchildren, Lisa and Chad Andrus (deceased), whom he loved as his own. They were later divorced.

Jerry married his true soulmate Kary Dee Nicoletti and they were happily together until Kary’s death in 2017. Shortly after Kary’s passing Jerry moved to Washington, Utah, to be closer to his family. He visited his older brother Jim every single day. It was their way of checking on each other. Those visits will be deeply missed.

Jerry was a man of few words, but he had the biggest heart. He enjoyed the open spaces of the West, camping, hunting, fishing and being in the mountains.

Jerry is survived by his daughter Kristy (Travis) Rawlinson, Salina Utah; son Cody Lamb, Evanston Wyoming; brother James L. Lamb, Washington, Utah; sisters Patsy Casper, Draper, Utah, Debbie (Pete) Field, Ivins, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather June Roberts; wife Kary; and brother Ren.

Jerry was cremated at his request.

Funeral services

  • Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 8, at 11 a.m. at the Cedar Fort Cemetery, Cedar Fort, Utah.

Jo Ann Shartzer

April 1, 1944 – May 21, 2019

On May 21, 2019, an angel transitioned to heaven. Jo Ann Shartzer passed peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving husband and family.

Jo Ann was born April 1, 1944, in Flagstaff, Arizona, to Joseph D. Terrin and Anna Mineer. She had one brother, Terrance D. Terrin, and one sister, Linda (Terrin) Daniels.

She spent her youth at the Navajo Army Depot outside Flagstaff, Arizona, where her father was a fire chief. She graduated from Flagstaff High School in 1962.

She met her husband, Ralph, in Flagstaff, Arizona, and they were married on May 9, 1963. They were married for 56 loving years.

After they were married, Ralph’s pursuit to become an Arizona Highway patrolman required they move to Phoenix, Arizona. They moved to Gila Bend, Arizona, in 1963 where Ralph was first stationed. Here they had two children, Derick and Tera. In 1969, they moved back to Phoenix, Arizona. In 1976 Ralph was assigned to patrol the Arizona Strip and Virgin River Gorge. Ralph and Jo Ann decided to settle down in the beautiful city of St. George, Utah.

In St. George, Jo Ann worked for Kelwood/Kelty Industries and Moore Business Forms. She retired in 1999. Jo Ann loved gardening, traveling and all animals. She was known for always carrying a can of cat food and dog treats in case she found a hungry stray animal.

Jo Ann was a faithful member of the LDS church and always found comfort in the love which surrounded her. Jo Ann was a very unselfish, loving and beautiful person always putting everyone else before herself.

She was predeceased by her father Joe, mother Anna and brother Terry.

Jo Ann is survived by her husband Ralph, son Derick (Teresa), daughter Tera (Tom) Hodges, sister Linda (Brian) Daniels, 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Jo Ann’s wishes were that in lieu of services and flowers, that you remember her by donating to the American Diabetes Association, the American/National Kidney Foundation or your favorite charity.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Encompass Home Health and Encompass Hospice, especially Lynette, Leslie, M’Liss and TJ for the wonderful way they took care her.

Jerald Farrell Hatch

Oct. 15, 1940 – May 22, 2019

Jerald Farrell Hatch, 78, returned to his Father in heaven on the morning of May 22, 2019, at his St. George residence following a long battle with a rare condition called pseudomyxoma peritonei.

Jerry was born in Springville, Utah, on Oct. 15, 1940, to F. A. and Ada M. Lund Hatch. He was married to his sweetheart, LaWana Carroll, April 15, 1961, in the St. George LDS Temple.

In his early years, Jerry was a cowboy through and through. He grew up on a ranch in northern Utah and was an experienced horseman. In his teenage years, his family moved to St. George; he attended Dixie High School (Class of 1958) and worked at the local Market Basket.

He graduated with a degree in accounting from Southern Utah State College and went on to law school at Lincoln Law School of Sacramento, California. His work ethic was unmatched, he owned businesses in California, Nevada and Utah. He spent the last 52 years residing in Springdale where he built his businesses and served as town councilman for three terms.

Jerry had a passion for early American history, travel and for the ocean. He was an experienced master diver, snorkeler and avid cruiser. Jerry loved music, specifically Hawaiian slack key, country, Reggae and African. He loved working outside and spending time with his family – he adored his grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 58 years, LaWana of Springdale; son Darren S. Hatch, of Cedar City; daughter Lisa D. Hatch Mickelson of St. George; daughter Leslee Hatch of San Juan Capistrano, California; sister Colleen Hatch Atkin of Washington, Utah; niece Mindi D. Hatch of Salt Lake City; grandchildren Jessica, Nicole, Eric, Jordan, Natalie and Jared; great-granddaughter Alexa; numerous extended family members and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his father F. A. Hatch; mother Ada M. Lund; brother William L. Hatch; brother Glade H. Hatch; and nephew Brent G. Hatch.

Funeral services

  • Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 1, at 11 a.m. at the LDS Chapel in Springdale, Utah.
  • A viewing will be held prior from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
  • Interment will take place in the Springdale Town Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Pacific Whale Foundation or to the Zion National Park Forever Project.

Michelle Thomas

March 15, 1952 – May 21, 2019

Michelle Thomas passed away May 21, 2019, in St. George, Utah. She was the youngest child born to Irma Selina Nelson and Hyrum Clark Thomas on March 15, 1952, in St. George, Utah.

Michelle grew up in St. George and attended the local schools. She graduated from Dixie High where she was very active in student government, the school newspaper and drill team. She also wrote, directed and starred in many school plays and assemblies. While attending Dixie Jr. College she was active in the theater department, performing in many stage productions. Michelle loved to sing and dance.

Michelle graduated from Southern Utah University. She was employed by the state of Idaho and then by Dixie State College. Michelle excelled and took pride in everything she did.

Michelle also carried on her mother’s legacy as an activist for “Downwinders.” She was very passionate and never hesitated to speak on the subject. She gave many interviews, spoke at conventions and testified before Congress.

Michelle’s quick wit and sense of humor are legendary. She loved to entertain visitors and make people laugh. Michelle loved things that were shiny and things that sparkled. She is widely known for her online shopping skills. Michelle loved her cats and she loved babies. She was happiest when friends visited with their children and grandchildren. Michelle has a wide circle of friends from all stages of her life. She definitely touched many lives.

Michelle is survived by her daughter Alyssa; grandchildren Annaka and Brentten; siblings Marilyn Cox, Clark Thomas, Rosemary LeBaron, Lolly Seal, Richie Thomas and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Morgan Thomas and Elbert Thomas.

Funeral services

  • Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 30, at 11 a.m. at the Spilsbury Mortuary Chapel, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, Utah.
  • There will be a viewing prior to services from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
  • Interment will take place at the St. George City Cemetery.

Gardner Lynn Crawford

July 5, 1947 – May 23, 2019

Gardner Lynn Crawford, resident of LaVerkin, Utah, 71 years of age, passed away at his home on May 23, 2019, from complications brought on by diabetes. He was born in Alhambra, California, on July 5, 1947. His parents are Gardner Lamar Crawford and Estella Abbott. He married Bonnie Mae Lowe on Sept. 18, 1976, in the Los Angeles Temple.

Lynn grew up in El Sereno in Los Angeles County. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in the Los Angeles Unified School District on June 17, 1966, with a major sequence in industrial arts. Other places of residence include Phoenix, Arizona, and LaVerkin, Utah.

Some of his occupations included operating a catering business, servicing vehicles for May Company, valeting in West Hollywood, driving for a tow truck company, driving for J & J Trucking in Phoenix, and providing security for a business in Arizona.

Browse, Utah, was a favorite camping and hunting destination for his family for many years while he was growing up. He loved people, cars, motorcycles, four-wheeling and fabricating when he needed something made to serve his purposes. Other interests included working with leather, target shooting and making walking sticks. He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie, his two sisters Corinne Green and Rickey Mulleneaux, four nieces, five nephews and lots of great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and an older brother, Craig.

Sue Wingfield

March 21, 1923 – May 20, 2019

Sue Wingfield, 96, peacefully fell asleep in death at home on May 20, 2019, in St. George, Utah. Sue was born on March 21, 1923, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, to Lawrence and Catherine Trammel. She was one of 10 children. She graduated from high school in Camp Verde, Arizona, in 1939, and later worked as a telephone operator in California during World War II.

She married the love of her life Edgar Wingfield in Phoenix, Arizona, on Dec. 14, 1946. They settled in the Verde Valley of Arizona, where they began raising their family of five children. Throughout their 55 years of loyal matrimony, they lived in many different places, including Mississippi, Colorado, California, Arizona, Arkansas and Wyoming.

Sue was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on May 19, 1969. She and Ed spent over 50 years actively sharing Bible truths with others. They always believed that actions speak louder than words, and tried to raise their family by setting a good example. They were always looking for ways to help others.

Sue was a wonderful person inside and out. She will forever be remembered for her loyal, adaptable, quiet, meek, humble attitude, as well as her great sense of humor, often zinging out one-liners. She was well known for her generous hospitality and giving spirit. She liked spending her casual time with friends and family enjoying time together fishing, on family camping trips at the lake or playing Skip-Bo. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles and gardening with her family.

Sue had a strong hope for the future, which included the belief in and longing for the fulfillment of the Bible’s promise of a resurrection to a perfect paradise on earth where she will be reunited with her family and “death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.” (Revelation 21:4)

Sue will be deeply missed by her four surviving children: Steve (Sandra) Wingfield of Grand Junction, Colorado; Holly (Tom) Hahn of St. George, Utah; Joy (Calvin) Proctor of Sorata, Bolivia; and Frank (Debbie) Wingfield of Casper, Wyoming; her brother Jerry (Barbara) Trammel of Wickenburg, Arizona; 10 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Ed, her son Dennis and eight siblings.

The family would like to thank all of her supportive friends, the health care workers who helped to care for her so kindly, and Alliance Hospice for taking such good care of her.

A memorial service will be held on June 15 at 1 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 626 S. 1100 East, St. George, Utah.

H. Bruce Stucki

Dec. 1, 1937 – May 29, 2019

Elder H. Bruce Stucki, emeritus General Authority Seventy, passed away on May 29, 2019, in St. George, Utah, at the age of 81.

Elder Stucki is survived by his wife, Cheryl Cox Stucki; their six children: Emerald Wayne (Franece Esplin), Michael Bruce (Renee Crawford), Harvey Bradley (Debra Kleinman), Darren Cox, Trinilee (Victor Christensen), and Tishalynn (Howard Chamberlain). They have 22 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.

Prior to his service as a General Authority Seventy from 1999 to 2006, Elder Stucki served as a scoutmaster (age 18), Young Men leader, Secretary to the Elder’s Quorum, Stake M-Men Leader, Counselor in the Stake MIA Superintendency, Stake MIA Superintendent, Ward Explorer Leader, Counselor in Bishopric, Bishop, Counselor in Stake Presidency, Stake President, a Regional Representative to the Council of the Twelve, and an Area Authority from 1995 to 1997.

He has been active in the Boy Scouts of America and has received the Silver Beaver Award for his service.

At the time of his call to the Second Quorum of the Seventy, Elder Stucki was serving as president of the England Manchester Mission (1997 to 1999). As a Member of the Second Quorum of Seventy, Elder Stucki served in the West Africa Area as Counselor and President, Southwestern United States Area as Counselor and Executive Producer of the Joseph Smith Film, and New Zealand/Pacific Islands Area as Counselor. After being released as a General Authority, he was called to serve as President of the Las Vegas Nevada Temple and served in that capacity from 2006 to 2009.

Born Dec. 1, 1937, in St. George, Utah, to Harvey Stucki and Anna Hilda Wittwer Stucki, he was the third of five children, having two older sisters: Cleo and Ila Claire, and two younger brothers:  John Wesley and Stephen Wittwer Stucki.  Elder Stucki grew up in the nearby farming community of Santa Clara, Utah. He married Cheryl Cox in 1955, and they were sealed in the St. George Temple in 1957.

After graduating from Dixie College (Outstanding Business Graduate) and the University of Utah in Business Management (High Honors Graduate), Elder Stucki entered the food distribution business (Partner/CEO & CFO – Rocky Mountain Company) and later became a real estate developer in the western United States. He also served as president of Dixie Development Corp. – 1961, which continues to operate today dedicating its resources and efforts to the building of the southwestern part of Utah.

Elder Stucki was a licensed commercial pilot with multi-engine and instrument ratings. He used a twin engine aircraft to travel for his business and various assignments throughout the western United States. He organized and began the Dixie Airlines, obtaining the certificated routes and operated the first scheduled airline service from Las Vegas to Salt Lake City; with stops in Cedar City, Milford and Delta. The small airline was later sold to other investors, and it now operates as SkyWest Airlines.

He has served as the president of the Chamber of Commerce (2 terms), president of the Dixie College Advisory Council (2 terms), as a regent for the Utah State System of Higher Education (Universities – 10 years), and as a member of the St. George City Water and Power Board (30 years).

Elder Stucki has a strong testimony of the truthfulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and he has received many blessings from the Lord to him and his family. He has witnessed miracles, and he knows the power of God to bless people and change their lives. His greatest treasure is his family, and his ultimate goal is to see each member of his family living righteously and actively involved in the church, and for them to each have a strong testimony and joy in their lives.

  • Funeral service will be held Friday, June 7, at 11 a.m. at the Red Cliffs 9th Ward Chapel, 1285 North Bluff St., St. George, Utah.
  • Visitations will be held Thursday, June 6, from 6-8 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd. and Friday, prior to service from 9-10:30 a.m. at the church.
  • Interment will be at the Pine Valley Cemetery.

Ronald Herbert Leech

Oct. 20, 1933 – May 31, 2019

Ronald Herbert Leech, 85, passed away peacefully May 31, 2019 at The Retreat at SunRiver Memory Care in St. George where he resided the past year and a half.

Ron was born in Empress in Alberta, Canada, Oct. 20, 1933, to Clinton and Grace Leech on a wheat farm. The family moved to Sisseton, South Dakota, when Ron was in high school. Ron loved Canada but enjoyed his home in Sisseton as well. He quickly became involved in the high school where he starred in track and football and met his future wife, Carolyn.

After graduating high school, Ron enlisted in the Army Airborne as a Paratrooper and served three years before going on to South Dakota State University where he graduated in Civil Engineering in 1959.

Ron and Carolyn were married April 3, 1955, and lived in South Dakota for six years while Ron went to school and later worked for the South Dakota Highway Department. In 1962, they moved to Bismarck, North Dakota, where Ron worked for Armco Steel until he started his own business, Basin Steel Inc., in 1966. Ron soon branched into construction and real estate development and retired early so he and Carolyn could travel and winter in Scottsdale, Arizona, and later St. George, Utah.

Ron was active in the Bismarck community, serving on the Zoo board and helping to get a hockey arena built. He loved people and was an active member of the Rotary Club, Elks, American Legion and Church of the Cross. Ron also loved outdoor activities: skiing, hiking, tennis, golf, bicycling and going on walks with Carolyn. He always had a ready laugh and delighted in telling stories, joking with people and meeting new people.

In St. George, he was active in his retirement community and with his wife, Carolyn, started a North Dakota breakfast for people who had moved to St. George from North Dakota. He was always making new friends and enjoyed visiting with them over coffee, meals and encounters while walking around the neighborhood.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Carolyn; his children: Brenda (Mark Talkington) Leech, Barb (Scott) Raveling, Alan (Debbie) Leech and Steve (Julie) Leech; his grandchildren: Alexa and Alicia Talkington, Tim, Michael, Jenny and Abby Raveling, Christopher and Michael Leech, Taylor and Ben Leech, Ryan (Erica) Persch and Whitney (Matt) Goodwin; two great-grandchildren: Bryce and Tanner Goodwin; and sister, Sharon (Dean) Hofland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clint and Grace Leech; and brother, Terry Leech.

Memorial services will be held June 22, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the New Promise Lutheran Church, 244 South Valley View Drive, St. George. Burial will be in Bismarck, North Dakota, at a later date. Michael Stan McDonald

March 21, 1944 – May 24, 2019

Michael Stan McDonald passed away at home in St. George, Utah, on May 24, 2019, from complications of a stroke. Michael was born in Electra, Texas, March 21, 1944, to Docia Hughrene and Howard Lee McDonald. He graduated from Electra High School, attended Midwestern State University and served in the Texas National Guard for six years.

He moved to Brigham City, Utah, to work for Morton Thiokol in 1972, where he met the love of his life, Susan Kenny Ollett. They were married in Brigham City on June 21, 1973. Michael and Susan were longtime residents of Mantua, Utah. After being laid off at Thiokol they moved to Tooele, Utah, so Mike could open a business in Salt Lake City.

Mike was a faithful member of the Church of Christ and served as song leader and teacher in the Brigham City and Tooele churches.

In 2018 he and Susan were able to retire and move to St. George, a longtime dream of Mike’s to get out of the cold. Mike was an avid fisherman and loved to golf and had many special friends in the golf community. He loved to talk to people and made friends wherever he went. He loved his animals and always had dogs, cats and horses around.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Susan, his brothers Richard Dan McDonald (his twin) and Gary Lee McDonald Sr., his nieces and nephews Lea Ellen McDonald, Corey McDonald, Gary Lee McDonald Jr., Ryan Mitchell Cragun, Anne Cragun Long, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Docia Hughrene and Howard McDonald, all his aunts and uncles, grandparents and many cousins.

Aug. 25, 1934 – June 2, 2019

Gloria Hafen Kezos, 84, returned to her Father in heaven on June 2, 2019, surrounded by family and loved ones.

Born on Aug. 25, 1934, in St. George, Utah, Gloria had a wonderful childhood in Santa Clara. She loved being from Utah’s Dixie. She had many good memories of days with her family, cousins and friends. She was the daughter of Grant and Elva Graf Hafen of Santa Clara. She was the big sis to three younger brothers. Gloria was the loving and devoted wife of Ted Kezos for 59 years. They were married in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Feb. 21, 1960, and later sealed in the St. George Temple on Dec. 27, 1962.

Gloria attended Woodward Junior High, where she had classes from her father, and graduated from Dixie High School in 1952. She continued her education at Dixie College and received an Associate in Arts degree in 1954. Throughout those years, Gloria again made many lifelong friendships.

After working a short time at the state drivers’ license office in Salt Lake City, and always seeking a new adventure, Gloria moved to Southern California where she met the Greek love of her life and best friend. She spent the next 30-plus years of her life in California, where she raised her family and developed many cherished friends before moving back home to Santa Clara in 1988.

Gloria loved many activities including riding in the car and enjoying nature, traveling, going to movies, listening to music, cooking Sunday dinners, singing, fishing, playing card games, watching Jazz games, watching any grandchild’s activity from music recitals to sport events and listening to books. When describing the many activities that she loved to do, she once wrote that “everything I can think of is better because I’ve got my man to share these times with and enjoy life together.” She loved her Teddy.

Most important in Gloria’s life was her relationships with other people. She genuinely loved her friends, her neighbors and her family. It came easy for her and she freely expressed love, interest and concern. She had unconditional love for her family and grandchildren. She was always quick to offer a kind word and show love to those around her. Those around her could feel of her friendship, love, kindness and genuine concern. Her greatest desire was to be around her family and friends.

Gloria was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and she served diligently in many capacities throughout her life from Cub Scouts to Primary Presidencies. She also volunteered in organizations like the American Cancer Society and the Huntsman World Senior Games.

Gloria is survived by her husband James (Ted) G. Kezos; brothers Darryl (Mary Jane) Hafen of Santa Clara, LeGrande (LuJuanna) Hafen of Santa Clara, and Craig (Patty) Hafen of South Jordan; children Kevin (Freedom) Kezos, Shauna (David) Polatis, and Kyle (Melanie) Kezos; grandchildren Travis Polatis, Greg (Kim) Kezos, Jordon (Mary) Polatis, Faith (Kenny) Banner, Ryan (Kaitlen) Polatis, Zachary (Emily) Polatis, Chad Kezos, Tessara Kezos, Kourtney Kezos, Ashley Kezos, Kylie Kezos; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Grant and Elva (Graf) Hafen; nephew Wade Hafen; many aunts, uncles, cousins; and countless dear friends.

Funeral services

  • Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 8, at 11 a.m. at the LDS Santa Clara Valley Chapel, 3040 Santa Clara Drive.
  • Visitations will be held Friday, June 7, from 6-8 p.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, Utah. Visitation will also be held prior to the funeral from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the LDS Santa Clara Valley Chapel.
  • Interment will take place at the Santa Clara City Cemetery.

Rodney Stephen Bradshaw

March 30, 1952 – May 31, 2019

Rodney “Rod” Stephen Bradshaw, 67, passed away on May 31, 2019. He was born on March 30, 1952, in Butte, Montana, to Thomas Bradshaw and Jacqueline “Jackie” Price. He married Gina Stead on April 11, 1998, in St. George, Utah.

Rod attended Granger High School in West Valley City, Utah, where he helped to write the school song. Shortly after high school he married Deborah Nourse. They had two kids together, Tony Bradshaw and Angela Armstrong.

He was an extraordinary entertainer who would travel nearly all 50 states and other places around the world. During this time in his life, he fathered Ryan Church. Also, he would learn how to make some of the best food you’d ever have the pleasure to eat through his culinary art skills.

Eventually he would end up in St. George where his mom Jackie and stepfather Bob set him up on a blind date. Little would Rod know, this would alter his life forever. This date would last the rest of his life as he met his wife Gina.

Gina had her own children when they met: Elise Taylor, Landon Buchanan, Chris Buchanan and Dru Buchanan. They would be shocked by the news Gina was expecting Thomas “Tommy” Harold Bradshaw. Being named after Rod’s father and Gina’s father.

They would be married for a blissful 21 years on earth and expect to be sealed together for eternity through their faith.

  • Funeral services will be on Thursday, June 6, at 2 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 950 S. Morningside Drive, St. George, Utah.
  • There will be a viewing Thursday prior to services from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the church.

Donna Jean Longson Hopkins Mulliner, 89, passed away peacefully June 1, 2019. Donna was born March 13, 1930, in Tooele, Utah, to Ellis Longson and Margret (Mickie) Longson.

Donna lived in many places but loved to call Southern Utah her home. She was married twice, first to Theodore Grant Hopkins, with whom she had her two children. She then married Mack V. Mulliner and had many happy years until his death in 1994.

Donna loved to read and got to the point where it was hard to find a book in the library that she hadn’t read. Donna was a great contributor to her community; she volunteered and served for many years wherever she could. She loved her family and loved to participate in all their activities – and there were many. Donna was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Donna is survived by her daughter Terry Hopkins Dover and son Tracy Alan Hopkins. She is also survived by six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, siblings JoAnn Coe (Roger-deceased),West Haven Utah, Barbara Flanders (Clint-deceased), West Valley City, Utah, Gary Longson (Carol) Reno, Nevada, Carole Enfield, (Allan- deceased) Elk Horn, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Buster Longson, Theodore Grant Hopkins and Mack V. Mulliner.

  • Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 8, at 11 a.m., with a visitation at 10 a.m., at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah.

Leland P. English

July 2, 1930 – June 1, 2019

Our father, Mr. Leland P. English, (Lee), departed this earthly life peacefully on June 1, 2019, at Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George, Utah.

Lee was born on July 2, 1930, in Heber, in Wasatch, Utah, the seventh of 10 children to Charles Luaine English and Gertrude Louise English. He married Jeanette Merlene Stanley on July 27, 1963, in Santa Monica, California.

He was raised in modest surroundings in Sandy, Utah, graduating from Jordan High School in 1948. He entered the Army in 1951 during the time of the Korean War. He was a decorated veteran, serving his country throughout the Korean War until he was honorably discharged in 1953.

Lee was originally interested in pursuing an agricultural degree though changed his mind to engineering after becoming interested in the logistics of agriculture. He went on to become a highly educated aeronautics engineer, initially graduating from the Northrop Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in aircraft maintenance engineering in 1960 and moving forward to being responsible for testing the major engines of the space shuttle.

Lee was a man of the utmost integrity, always willing to help a neighbor in need. He has traveled the world, visiting several different countries to include Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and Canada.

Lee is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jeanette English, Toquerville, Utah; his children and their spouses: Daryl and Sherry English, Jacksonville, Florida; Joe and Venera English, Auburn, Washington; Diane and Michael Murray, Slidell, Louisiana; Lee and Rhonda English, Picayune Mississippi; and his 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings: Afton, Genevieve, Vernon, Lysle, Marjorie, Thomas, Phillip, Wilma and Charlie.

The family would like to thank the doctors and medical staff at the Southern Utah Veterans Home and the Dixie Regional Medical Center, the staff at the Cremation Center of Southern Utah, friends and family for the love and caring shown to Lee during this time.

Richard Wayne Fischer

March 9, 1941 – May 31, 2019

Richard “Rich” Wayne Fischer passed from this mortal life on May 31, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family. Rich was a kind and giving soul who loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ, working hard and most of all loved his family with all that he had.

Rich was born to Norma Stokes and Alfonso Laker Cook on March 9, 1941, in Murray, Utah. Rich was adopted in 1945 to Carl and Mary Fischer. With the Fischers, Rich was raised with 15 brothers and sisters. Carl and Mary Fischer taught Rich the value of hard work, a job well done and to love the Lord throughout his life.

Rich was raised in Murray, Utah, up until his high school years when he then moved to Orem area and attended Orem High School. Rich attended Southern Utah University for a short time until the passing of his father Carl Fischer in 1959, at which time he decided to start his career as a plumber.

Rich married Lili Ann Lauritzen on June 2, 1961. Together they had four boys and five girls. Ann preceded Rich in death in 1973.

Rich married Cora Lee Witt on Oct. 13, 1962. Together they had three girls and five boys.

After their divorce, Rich married Sharon Knox on April 13, 1979. Sharon and Rich added three more boys to the family and divorced in 1985.

Five years later Rich married Fatima Madtahir on Dec. 22, 1990, and together for the last 29 years they have enjoyed, cherished and loved all 128 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.

Rich was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Mary Fischer, his brothers Von, Erwin, Leo and Harvey, son David Fischer and grandson Brad Fischer. Rich leaves behind his wife Fatima, his mother Norma Stokes Brisk, 19 children and their spouses, 127 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

Rich will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Funeral services

  • Services will be held at the Hurricane LDS Chapel 274 S. 100 West, Hurricane, Utah, on Saturday, June 8.
  • Viewing will be from 9-10 a.m., the funeral service will be at 11 a.m.
  • The burial will be at the Isaac W. Carling Cemetery in Colorado City, Arizona, following the services.
  • Luncheon will then be offered for family and friends at the Cottonwood Park in Colorado City, Arizona.

Scott S. Simpson

March 12, 1951 – June 4, 2019

Scott S. Simpson passed away on June 4, 2019, after a brave journey with prostate cancer. Scott had a wonderful sense of humor and a strong testimony of his savior Jesus Christ. Scott loved his family unconditionally and always led with his example of patience and love.

Scott was born on March 12, 1951, in Ogden, Utah, to Theron and Sue (Mahalek) Simpson.

In 1975, following a short engagement, he married Shauna Garrard in the Ogden Temple. They spent the next 44 years getting to know each other. During this time, they raised four children and enjoyed their 14 grandchildren. Scott had a strong testimony of heavenly Father’s plan of happiness and the eternal nature of families. Scott served in the baptistry and as an ordinance worker in the St. George Temple for 27 years.

Scott was deeply passionate about his family and his automobiles – and he found ways to bring these two passions together. He was often found riding Harley Davidsons with his wife or taking apart a car/boat engine with his sons or driving his Corvette around with a grandchild or teaching someone how to fix a car.

Scott had a unique and special relationship with each of his children and grandchildren and will be remembered for his innate ability to use laughter and humor to lighten even the most difficult of circumstances. All who knew him were touched by his enormous capacity for unrestricted love and compassion.

Scott is survived by his wife Shauna Simpson, his children Jennifer (Matt) Vetticatt, Cory (Paula) Simpson, Mick (Sholanda) Simpson, and Angie (Kevin) Pugh; his grandchildren Billy, Katharina, Emma and Miriam Vetticatt; Cole, Annabella, Cory, Cameron, Preston and Parker Simpson; Kai and Kru Simpson; Kelen and Kamry Pugh; and his brothers and sisters Jim (Shelly), Vicky (Loren), Brent (Denise), Cliff (Pam), Sandy (Brent), and Peggy (Mark). Scott was preceded in death by his sister Karen.

Funeral services

  • Public viewing will be held on Friday, June 7, at 10 a.m., followed by funeral services to honor Scott at 11:30 a.m., at the Indian Hills chapel, 1282 W. 500 South Circle, St. George.

Nov. 12, 1926 – June 1, 2019

Calvin Connel Nielson was born Nov. 12, 1926, in Roosevelt, Utah and died on June 1, 2019, at the Southern Utah Veterans Home in Ivins, Utah.

Surviving family is sister Irene Jessop, former wife Eva Zitting Nielson Bath, former wife Ruth Zitting Nielson, 16 sons and daughters: Jim, Calvin Jr., Kathy, Darrel, Christine, David, Marie, Lorin, Richard, Allen, John, LeRoy, Rebecca, Glen, Caroline and Charles, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Family that has preceded him in death are Niels Nielson his father, Ella Gilbert (Nielson) his mother, six brothers, three sisters, former wife Marjorie Gavoilla, Joeseph Fredrick Nielson, son, and Alvin Gilbert Nielson, son.

Calvin grew up in Cedarview, Utah. He moved to a little log farmhouse in Midview, Utah, which at this place his father passed away. From there he moved to the Salt Lake City, Utah, with his mother and family.

He was drafted into the Army in 1945. When returning to Salt Lake City he took part in several different jobs and then started up a plumbing company called Allied Trades Corporation with his business partner Carl Zitting. He was also a member of the Utah Home Builders Association of Salt Lake City.

He moved to Hildale, Utah, and continued plumbing for many years. Then took up a job at Nielson Wholesale Plumbing run by his son John. His final job was at the local hardware store where he oversaw the plumbing department. After which making his final home for the last six years at the Southern Utah Veterans Home in Ivins, Utah.

The family would like to express their thanks to the nurses and staff at the Southern Utah Veterans Home for the love and care they showed to Calvin. Thanks also to Ted Spilsbury and all the staff at Spilsbury Mortuary. To all our family and friends – we love you – thank you for sharing this moment in time with us.

Aug. 25, 1950 – June 1, 2019

Michael Wolschon, a friend to everybody, passed away on June 1, 2019, at 68 years young. He was a strong, kindhearted family man, born on Aug. 25, 1950, in Detroit, Michigan, to Frederick J. Wolschon and Stella Jane Wolschon.

He worked hard, he loved hard and he lived life to the fullest. He is deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.

Michael is survived by his wife Reneé Wolschon; children Stacey (Phillip) Teague of Salisbury, North Carolina, Stephanie (Daniel) Rule of Carmichael, California, Michelle (Travis) Smith of Salt Lake City, Utah; 10 loving grandchildren; mother Stella Bingham of Michigan; sister Kathi Langley; brother Marty Wolschon.
