Our dear mother Mildred Sophia Kunz Darger left this life to join the love of her life and live eternally with him on May 17, 2023. She was born Nov. 2, 1940, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Morris Q. Kunz and Rachel Alveda Jessop Kunz. She was the third of her mother’s five children and the last surviving. She married Marvin Lee Darger on Nov. 8, 1958. Together they had 16 children who were her pride and joy.
Mom had a testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and embodied it throughout her life. In August 1963, she entered the Celestial Law of Marriage when Judy Barlow joined the family and added 13 more children and many grandchildren for her to love. Mom loved all of Father’s children like they were her own.
She had many, many, kids in the community that considered her a mom. She had a soft spot in her heart for anyone that was a little down on their luck or needed some love. She always had plenty to share. Her capacity to love was unparalleled. Mom lived through a lot of adversity and tough times, yet through it all she remained upbeat and positive. She was happiest when her house was full of family.
Mom was very talented. She was an amazing seamstress; sewing was a passion of hers. After sewing all day for a living, she could often be found at her sewing machine in the wee hours of the night. She could work magic in the kitchen; everything she made tasted amazing. Ask the neighbors about her bread.
In her later years, she learned to crochet and was excellent at it. She always looked forward to Thursday “Happy Hooker” Night with her daughters and granddaughters. Millie has touched countless lives and will be sorely missed. We love you to the moon and back, Mom.
Millie is survived by her children: Marie (Marion Steed), Gayle, Carol (Roland Cooke), Joan (Marion Young), Eldren (Debbie), Joseph, Rachel (Ron Jessop), Leann, Barbara (James Steed), Shirley, Hyrum (Carol), Patty (Marion Young), Susie and Celesta (Jake Steed), as well as 75 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her mother, father, husband, two sons, Lee,and Lester, three sons-in-law Clark (Marie), Robert (Gayle and Shirley) and Mark (Leann) and two grandsons, Brent (Marie) and Ron (Rachel).
