Sept. 25, 1932 – May 19, 2023
Jayne Marlow Heldt Orth, 90, passed away May 19, 2023, at home in St. George, Utah. She enjoyed good health her whole life until she fractured her hip this past September. She began her earthly sojourn on September 25, 1932, in beautiful Great Falls, Montana.
Jayne left behind a wonderful legacy with her children: Linda (Ferron) Holt, Jerrilyn Orth, David (Donna) Orth, Sandra (James) Hodge, Brian (Melinda) Orth and JoAnn (Brent) Law; daughter-in-law, Karrie Orth; sister, Joanne Jensen; 27 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents and son, Daniel Orth.
Due to World War II, their family moved to Tacoma, Washington in order for her father to gain employment as a welder on the ships in the Puget Sound and Tacoma area.
Jayne met her high school sweetheart at the age of 16. He worked with her dad in the lumber fields and they became good friends. Her father thought the world of Don and therefore he introduced him to his daughter.
That’s where their love story began. They were married in the Lutheran Church. Later, Don introduced her to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She converted at age 19 and has been a valiant member ever since.
She has such a deep love for her Heavenly Father and Savior. She loved living the gospel principles and raised her seven children in a Christ centered home. She led by example. She had numerous church callings and loved serving. She loved people and would talk to everyone and learn about them.
Jayne was blessed to be a stay-at-home mom. When her children were all raised, she gained employment with the Jordan School District as a secretary.
Jayne created a loving happy home and created many family traditions for her family. Our Christmas plays were one of our favorite parts of Christmas. We loved dressing up and honoring the Savior’s birth.
There was always a baby to play the part of baby Jesus because of Jayne’s seven children. She loved the ocean, hunting agates and seashells. She loved spending summers at our family cabin on Herron Island. As a family, we loved camping.
Music was a big part of her life. She played the saxophone in her high school marching band. She would sing in the Pacific Lutheran University Choir with their annual Messiah concerts and sang in her ward choirs. She had a beautiful alto voice. She passed on her love of music to her children, whether by vocal or piano lessons which lead to many opportunities for each child.
Jayne was a very elegant lady; she loved to shop and loved her jewelry. She always dressed her children so cute and proper. She took great pride in doing so. Also a huge dog lover, she had many dogs in her lifetime — Olaf being her last.
She will be laid to rest beside her sweetheart in the Mesquite City Cemetery, 301 Hillside Drive, Mesquite, Nevada.
