July 17, 1936-Nov. 22, 2022

Wendell Clyde Gray was born July 17, 1936, in St. George, Utah.  He is the son of Clyde and Violet Stucki Gray.

Wendell was raised on the Gray Ranch in Central, Utah, where he loved working with his father and going on yearly round-ups beginning at age 12. He attended elementary in Santa Clara, Utah, then Dixie High and Dixie College where he was active in musicals and also played football and baseball. Wendell continued his education at BYU taking time out to serve a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southern states for two years.  Returning to BYU he met and married his sweetheart Marva Larsen after his junior year. He received his bachelor’s degree and moved to Malad, Idaho, where he began his career teaching seminary.

They then moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he received his master’s degree. They moved once again, this time back to Dixie where he taught in the Institute program at the college and then became the administrator.  He was transferred the last nine years of his career to Las Vegas where he served as the area director for parts of California, Nevada and Arizona.

He is the father of four daughters:  Wendy (Kay) Stott, Shelly (Kelly) Evans, Kristy (Chris) Larsen and Marcy (Troy) Fullmer.  He has 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Marva passed in 1997 and Wendell then married Lucinda “Cindy” Nyberg adding her six children:  Lynette (Valerieann) Nyberg, Lori (Rick) Klatt, Kenny Nyberg, Brent (Brook) Nyberg, Kelly (Rochelle) Nyberg and Kristi Thomas; plus, another 29 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Together they were able to serve four missions for the church and enjoy 25 years together.

Wendell has been and continues to be a wonderful, positive influence in our lives and so many others.  We will miss him so much.
