Robert Benton Smith, age 73, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2022. He was born June 17, 1949, in Roswell, New Mexico, to Benton V. Smith and Mildred Zigich Smith.
An avid outdoorsman, he spent his time in the mountains prospecting, hiking, caving and rock hounding. Family and his grandchildren were the most important things to him, and he took them camping, fishing and taught them about rocks as a geologist and soils scientist. Although he will be missed, his legacy will be honored throughout generations.
He is survived by Moriah Chesley in Bluffdale, Utah; grandchildren Wyatt Bliven, Hannah Chesley and Wade Chesley; sisters Georgia Propp of Salinas, California, and Virginia Vanderford of Sherwood, Oregon.
He is preceded in death by his son Benton I. Smith.
Graveside service will be Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 10 a.m., at Tonaquint Cemetery, 1777 S. Dixie Drive, St. George, Utah.
