Sue Wingfield, 96, peacefully fell asleep in death at home on May 20, 2019, in St. George, Utah. Sue was born on March 21, 1923, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, to Lawrence and Catherine Trammel. She was one of 10 children. She graduated from high school in Camp Verde, Arizona, in 1939, and later worked as a telephone operator in California during World War II.
She married the love of her life Edgar Wingfield in Phoenix, Arizona, on Dec. 14, 1946. They settled in the Verde Valley of Arizona, where they began raising their family of five children. Throughout their 55 years of loyal matrimony, they lived in many different places, including Mississippi, Colorado, California, Arizona, Arkansas and Wyoming.
Sue was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on May 19, 1969. She and Ed spent over 50 years actively sharing Bible truths with others. They always believed that actions speak louder than words, and tried to raise their family by setting a good example. They were always looking for ways to help others.
Sue was a wonderful person inside and out. She will forever be remembered for her loyal, adaptable, quiet, meek, humble attitude, as well as her great sense of humor, often zinging out one-liners. She was well known for her generous hospitality and giving spirit. She liked spending her casual time with friends and family enjoying time together fishing, on family camping trips at the lake or playing Skip-Bo. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles and gardening with her family.
Sue had a strong hope for the future, which included the belief in and longing for the fulfillment of the Bible’s promise of a resurrection to a perfect paradise on earth where she will be reunited with her family and “death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.” (Revelation 21:4)
Sue will be deeply missed by her four surviving children: Steve (Sandra) Wingfield of Grand Junction, Colorado; Holly (Tom) Hahn of St. George, Utah; Joy (Calvin) Proctor of Sorata, Bolivia; and Frank (Debbie) Wingfield of Casper, Wyoming; her brother Jerry (Barbara) Trammel of Wickenburg, Arizona; 10 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Ed, her son Dennis and eight siblings.
The family would like to thank all of her supportive friends, the health care workers who helped to care for her so kindly, and Alliance Hospice for taking such good care of her.
A memorial service will be held on June 15 at 1 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 626 S. 1100 East, St. George, Utah.
